    Overview

    En el año 1971 se inventó la tomografía computarizada (TC), en 1976 se aplicó el principio de la resonancia magnética nuclear (RM) al estudio del cuerpo humano. Ambos métodos permitieron la obtención de imágenes hasta aquel momento impensables y permitieron realizar una verdadera disección in vivo, que nos ha permitido progresar en el conocimiento de la anatomía, en sus múltiples variantes y en su patología.
    El desarrollo de estos métodos, ligados al de la informática, es continuo. Actualmente, es posible lograr magníficas reconstrucciones multiplanares (3D) y angiografía con TC o RM.
    También se está progresando en el análisis espectrométrico de tejidos, especialmente con la tomografía por emisión de positrones (PET) y en la cirugía asistida por RM, así como en la anatomía funcional del sistema nervioso y en otros campos. En cambio, la tomografía convencional y parcialmente, la radiología simple, han quedado obsoletos.
    En el primer capítulo se ha incluido una breve historia para que se conozca la evolución de la radiología.
    En esta obra se pretende analizar las posibilidades que ofrecen los modernos métodos de imagen en los diversos campos de la otoneurología. Recoge una gran colección de imágenes que el autor ha ido acumulando durante 46 años y que esperamos que sean de gran ayuda para la optimización de los diagnósticos y de los planteamientos quirúrgicos.
